Terminal Work Station
If you don't entertain a lot or only entertain during holidays one way of utilizing the dining room is use it as a home office when you're not entertaining. Aside from using armoires to hide your files you can also use a table that hide the ugly sight of cables and yet have accessible plug-in sockets to double as your dining table. Just throw a table cover on top put a tray on the center and nobody would know its primary function in your house. The OFM Terminal/Workstation fits this description. It's wide enough at 48" X 48".

Expanding Dining Table Hutch
If your family normally eats in the kitchen and you want to use your formal dining room as your child's playroom, why not consider the Expanding Dining Table Hutch? You can leave it as a hutch when there are no guests so your little darling can play inside. The hutch can converts into a dining table large enough to comfortably seat six by simply pulling out its faux drawers and inserting leaves. Made by a company that has specialized in folding furniture since 1922, when fully extended the hutch provides twice as much tabletop surface and is far sturdier than ordinary folding card tables. Each of the five leaves adds 14" to the chest's length, creating a table of 33", 47", 61", 75", or 89" in length to give you versatile entertaining options. The leaves are hinged in the middle, allowing them to fold in two and store upright behind the left cabinet door. The right side of the hutch has a built-in shelf and provides storage for dinnerware or linens.
